Lion's Share ALPHA OMICRON CHAPTER OF ALPHA DELTA PI AT OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY FALL 2020 The A nyone driving on University Avenue in Stillwater can see the tremendous growth of the new Alpha Delta Pi chapter house construction project. With the general contractor completing important aspects of the project in August and continuing work on significant elements into September, important work is now beginning on the interior of the house. And that new interior design has a special connection to Alpha Omicron. AO House Corporation selected Registered Interior Designer Kristin Grant Check '06 to create the design and beautiful interiors on the new chapter house. "When [House Corporation] told me I was selected, I was over the moon thrilled to get to be part of this special project," Check said. Together with the AO House Corporation, they worked to develop goals and determine the interior environment that was desired for the new house. They took into consideration that the chapter women wanted a home where everyone would immediately feel welcome; a home that was not too fancy, but a place to relax with sisters and provide much-needed space for chapter functions. "This project is also extremely close to my heart and I really gave it my best attention to make sure the project was designed to a high standard," said Check. "I think my experience as an AO living in the original house and my knowledge of ADPi as an organization helped me to create a really special design that could only be achieved by having an insider as the Interior Designer for this project." When creating the interior plan, there were several factors that had to be considered. Project budget and construction timeline were important, and it had to comply with local codes and accessibility requirements. The products selected also needed to perform at a high standard of durability and last for years to come without damage and added maintenance. Check says the design aesthetic for the house was established to be classic with a feminine flair, providing a timeless interior that will work for the chapter for years to come. "The goal was to blend a variety of styles into a unique design that is unlike any sorority house and completely customized to Alpha Delta Pi. We wanted the design to create a feeling when you experienced the interior environment that was light, airy, feminine and timeless." Check added, "We also wanted to draw on the Alpha Delta Pi International brand and focused on using those colors and brand standard when creating color palettes and interior concepts for the house. The color palette was selected based on azure blue and woodland violet, with glamourous accents of pearl and sparkle throughout." The first floor has the most elegance and has a more formal aesthetic in the interior finishes and lighting design. The living spaces and the basement have a more casual and fun aesthetic with each lounge and study space having a unique theme that incorporates the ADPi brand and colors. The study and lounge spaces were created with different styles and types of furniture to allow the women to choose the option that best fits their study style and productivity. According to Check, there are several special areas or focal points of the design plan. "The grand entry features a shimmery custom glass mosaic accent wall that emulates a cascading waterfall wall in shades of azure blue and pearl finishes. This accent wall will have illuminated Alpha Delta Pi signage and logos over it and jeweled sconces leading up the grand stairs," she said. "The entry also has a trio of custom chandeliers that are handmade from recycled glass to look like strings of pearls cascading down." She added that the entryway has the most dramatic "wow factor." In addition to the entry, the first-floor Heritage Room is a space which includes a beautiful fireplace and customized cabinetry with diamond shaped glass accents that reflect the diamond badge and branding. On the second floor there will be an OSU-themed lounge space that includes a collage wall with hundreds of favorite photos submitted by AO alumnae. According to Check, this space was designed to incorporate memories of the chapter house on the OSU campus over FURNISH, FUND AND FINISH WELL (Continued on page 2) GRAND ENTRY HERITAGE ROOM
