The Constantine Sig and sustainable facility that is the best amongst UVA's fraternities. Why is this important? First, the Chapter House desperately needed renovation. But second, and more importantly, the number of male students rushing has decreased, so the competition for quality men is stiffer. I am convinced that due to this renovation, our wonderful Chapter House will continue to enrich Brothers' UVA experiences and prolong our legacy of producing good men who do good things for their families and their communities. Phase 2 construction—the house renovation— took place over the summer as planned. It required special attention and strict adherence to COVID-19 requirements. With the assistance of the general contractor, Martin Horn Inc., and regular oversight by the Board of Directors, the project was delivered without incident. Many design features will also help the Chapter deal with the COVID-19 reality during this academic year, including: • Twenty single bedrooms with new individually controlled heating and A/C • New ADA-compliant bathroom on the first floor • New second large bathroom on the second floor • New ADA-compliant kitchen designed for catered food service and sanitary food handling • New dining facility with flexible seating arrangements to facilitate social distancing Our home at 608 Preston Place is today more than twice the size of the house that Bob Fair and his Brothers bought 70 years ago. Thanks to the generosity of over 250 Brothers, who have contributed nearly $2 million to make this restoration possible, Psi will remain a vital part of UVA for years to come. REOPENING OF THE CHAPTER HOUSE Your House Corporation is fully committed to following Virginia, Center for Disease Control, and UVA COVID regulations, and our lease requirements ensure 608's residents have a healthy environment in which to reside. The Chapter House renovation is done and a certificate of occupancy has been approved by the city. The Actives moved in late August. They—and the Charlottesville community— are in for a challenging academic year. I included my letter to the Actives just for your information. Bottom line, we did it. Come visit—and let me know when you do… I live in C'ville. In closing, I'd be remiss to not make a special note of the untiring devotion of Steve Herbert '68, the House Corporation Building Committee chairman, whose herculean efforts overseeing this enormous project is the only reason it is now completed. Thank you, Steve, for your devotion to this project and to your Brothers, current and future. You're a great man and friend. Sincerely and In Hoc, Jim Mallon '81 President, Psi of Sigma Chi House Corporation PHASE 2 CONSTRUCTION COMPLETE AT 608 PRESTON PLACE (Continued from page 1) DONORS MADE Phase 2 bedrooms addition rear elevation showing new stairway and HVAC units.
