The lion's lore A PublicAtion of the KAnsAs betA chAPter of sigmA AlPhA ePsilon fAll 2020 I t has been an incredible year for the Kansas Beta Chapter, the recipient of the 2020 John O. Moseley Award for Fraternity Zeal, which is awarded to the top ΣΑΕ chapter in the nation. In addition to the Zeal Award, Kansas Beta was awarded the Chapter Achievement Award, the Outstanding Chapter Communication Award, the Outstanding Chapter Management Award, the Outstanding Service and Philanthropy Award, and the Outstanding Chapter Recruitment Award. Several brothers also won individual National awards. Justin Tinkler '22 was named the ΣΑΕ Recruitment Chairman of the Year, Travis Wiebler '22 was named the ΣΑΕ Treasurer of the Year, and John Hatfield '76 was named the ΣΑΕ Chapter Advisor of the Year. We could not be prouder of the contributions these brothers have made and the hard work of all the brothers in the chapter over the past several years. This year, we are steadfastly focused on further improving our chapter and keeping our members safe under the current circumstances. RECRUITMENT We're pleased to state that we have filled the chapter house for another semester thanks to the innovation of our talented recruitment team. They worked incredibly hard over the past semester, adjusting their strategies to a more virtual approach. The new basketball court has greatly aided the recruitment chairmen as it provides the perfect outdoor venue to have potential new members over for barbecues and basketball tournaments. We have initiated 32 new brothers this year and we're very excited to watch them grow into leaders in the house. SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVEMENTS Academics continue to be a top priority for Kansas Beta. Our members achieved a 3.51 all-chapter GPA for the spring 2020 semester, even with COVID-19 pushing all classes online. We had 59% of our members achieve a 4.0 and 71% achieve a 3.5 or higher. Brothers have worked incredibly hard on their academics over the past year. Our academic goal for the semester is to finish with a 3.5 or higher GPA and in the top three of fraternities. OTHER NEWS Four brothers are senators in the Student Governing Association: Justin Watkins '22, Blaine Snyder '21, Fischer Carr '22, and Cashe McVey '23. Our exterior renovation project was completed at the beginning of this semester, and brothers have been making daily use of the new basketball court and porch area! Our first philanthropy event, the ΣΑΕ Car Wash, made over $3,000, and several more are planned throughout the semester. Overall, the chapter continues to advance and redefine itself. Recruitment continues to bring in strong leaders, excelling academics, and astounding athletes. Through the True Gentleman experience, our members improve themselves and, in turn, maintain and excel the glory Sigma Alpha Epsilon has had in the past, has today, and will have in the future. None of this would be possible without your continued alumni support. We want your dedications to be recognized and for you to share in our successes. Today and every day, we appreciate the positive impact your contributions have had on not only our house, but the men who join ΣΑΕ. Fraternally, Fischer Carr '22, Eminent Archon fischercarr4@gmail.com KANSAS BETA NAMED TOP ΣΑΕ CHAPTER IN THE NATION Kansas Beta raised over $3,000 for Children's Miracle Network during the ΣΑΕ Car Wash.
