Epsilon Calls page 2 S isters, we are positively encouraging our chapter members to stay safe and socialize among only the sisterhood. Many of our sisters have donated playing cards, games, arts and crafts, and other activities for the women to recreate at 214 North Plum. If you are interested in helping, there is an Amazon wish list posted on the Official Alpha Xi Delta Epsilon Chapter Alumnae Page on Facebook. We also want to reward chapter members who continue to emulate good COVID-19 living practices by limiting their outside of the house social time, wearing a mask in public spaces, monitoring their temperature, etc. Small denomination gift cards donated by alumnae will be used in weekly drawings for members who have provided leadership in COVID-19 living. Please consider donating and sending gift cards to: Clare Fiore, President Alpha Xi Delta 214 North Plum Vermillion, SD 57069 A short note of encouragement is appreciated. A list of suggested places is also available on the Official Alpha Xi Delta Epsilon Chapter Alumnae Facebook Page or emailing us at Axid.epsilon.corpboard@gmail.com. Dedicated to Alpha Xi Delta Epsilon Chapter Experience Motivated Mary Roth Runge '85 to Pay It Forward F rom the beginning, the women of Alpha Xi Delta made Mary Roth Runge '85 feel like a part of something special. "The house felt like home," she said. Being a member of Epsilon Chapter provided her a life-changing experience that inspired her to stay connected to the sisterhood beyond graduation and pay it forward for sisters who followed in her footsteps. "It gave me leadership and time management experience, and it also gave me opportunities to be involved and grow as a woman," she said. Mary earned her business degree from USD and enjoys her career in accounting. She is most proud of working and growing her family's construction company as accountant/controller. "Being part of a family business is a gift, but it comes with great responsibility and dedication on all fronts," she stated. She's also remained dedicated to Epsilon Chapter and was instrumental in its recent capital campaign. Mary was on the House Corporation Board for four years, serving as treasurer for three of those years. As an accountant, it was a natural fit for her, and her passion for Alpha Xi motivated her continued involvement in the sisterhood. "I saw the condition of the old Alpha Xi Delta house, and the need for a new house was great. The capital campaign was an enormous effort, but I am so humbled by all the amazing alumnae who stepped up and gave to the capital campaign or volunteered in some capacity," she shared. "Epsilon Chapter really does have some awesome alumnae!" For Mary, the most rewarding aspect of the capital campaign, which was also the most challenging, was being a part of building the new house. "Everything from bank financing to setting budgets for construction and then for the new house was extremely challenging," she said. "But to have a new house and know that it will be appreciated by many new women of Alpha Xi Delta for years to come is so rewarding, and I was honored to be a part of the process." Mary calls Sioux Falls home now, where she lives with her husband, Michael. She enjoys golfing and spending time with family and friends at their lake cabin. You can connect with Mary at runge5@aol.com. "The three words that best describe Epsilon Chapter are sisterhood, leadership, and friendship."
