Santillan became the second Lady Mustang in the past two years to be named the Big 8 Player of the Year. Kinser was first-team all-conference and all-dis- trict. Also gone are Jackie Grider and Kaylee Eberley, who earned second-team all-dis- trict honors, along with starters Emily Emmert and Caitlin Hall. In addition to the two pitchers, other McDonald County returning starters are Adasyn Leach and Reagan Myrick. "Adasyn was our shortstop last year but will make the move over to third base for this season," Alumbaugh said. "She will provide some veteran leadership to our infield. "Reagan did a great job coming into a tough position replacing Khylie Helm at catcher as a freshman last year. She took on the responsibility of handling a veteran pitching staff and she established herself as a quality catcher. She will once again provide a sense of continuity to our battery for this season. Reagan also established herself as a hitter who will provide us with many quality at-bats in our lineup." Fighting for the remaining starting posi- tions are returnees Deorica Zamora, Zoe Parish, Mariana Salas, Madison Grider and Melanie Gilming. Freshmen vying for varsity playing time are Carlee Cooper, Katelyn Townsend, Nevaeh Dodson and Natalie Gillming. The Lady Mustangs open their 2020 season on Aug. 28 against Carthage at MCHS. Game time is 4:30 p.m. CONTINUED FROM PAGE 7C
