FarmHouse Almanac p . 3 Planting the Seed Discussions Ongoing About Chapter House Improvements T hank you for taking the time to read through this most recent newsletter. In doing so, we can assume you are either a supporter or at least curious to the status of our Washington State Chapter of FarmHouse. As many of you know, the chapter house itself was built in 1960, which makes it 60 years old this year. On top of this milestone, the Alumni Association doesn't have a mortgage on the chapter house or annex property next door, which has been a financial benefit these last few years. Over time, we have updated and made improvements: installing a new roof, exterior paint, vinyl windows, fire suppression systems, new boilers, kitchen and bathroom improvements, flooring, etc. However, it has been some time since any major upgrades, and in the not too distant future we will need to give serious thought to renovating the chapter house. Consider this a seed planted. For the sake of staying somewhat competitive in recruitment and complementing the quality of men we strive to bring to our brotherhood, we are looking to make some minor improvements to give the house a less outdated appearance. We have been in conversations with active members and alumni to make a short list of improvements to make in the short term until a more significant project can be funded. This may include interior paint, flooring/carpet, window covering, bathroom updates, dining table, lighting, and chapter room wall finishes/ seating. We are in the process of pricing out some options with the idea that we as a group could perform some of this work internally and fund with donations. If you have interest in being involved in these projects or a desire to contribute, please contact me via email, phone, text, or Facebook. Fraternally, Brian Tisch '98 Alumni Association Board Treasurer brtisch@hotmail.com (360) 303-8831 T he spring semester brought many challenges, but also much room for growth for Washington State Chapter of FarmHouse. With the COVID-19 pandemic, our time in Pullman was cut short. This caused us to find ways to stay connected as a group. We achieved this by conducting virtual chapter meetings, brotherhood events, and ceremonies online. These activities allowed us to still feel some much-needed normality in these trying times. Brothers were forced to adapt quickly once all classes shifted online. We helped each other through this transition by staying in touch through various virtual platforms. This summer, we're taking steps to ensure that we'll be ready for in-person classes to resume for the fall semester. We are focused first and foremost on meeting state health guidelines and keeping all brothers safe from COVID-19. These times will be difficult, but we take this as an opportunity to grow as men.
