On Monday, we return for lunch and dine in the Club Room, accented with bright green walls, wine racks, sports memorabilia and one of several flat screens. ey have us at "bacon" – which tops the house salad, of all things – and comes with the daily special: country-style steak smothered in thick white gravy over a bed of garlic-laced mashed potatoes. My dining companion goes for the flavorful veggie burger with a side of sautéed zucchini. In keeping with precautionary measures during the era of coronavirus, our affable waiter Jeff, who's been with the restaurant for a decade, is wearing a mask and rubber gloves. e Go-Go's "Our Lips Are Sealed" plays at just the right volume over speakers. We are the only ones in this room. But we can see the action around us. A dapper lawyer sits at the bar, conversing with a long-legged, tanned woman. A boomer couple savors lunch in another dining room. We're all doing the social distancing thing as much as possible. On a subsequent visit, we chat with longtime chef Keith Sanderson, who takes pride in a "90 percent homemade kitchen." His focus is utilizing the freshest possible ingredients to create memorable dishes that bring back customers and their friends. e menu also has its sweet surprises – from an appetizer of pork rinds with boom-boom dipping sauce, to an entrée of a grilled tomahawk ribeye for two, to the unconventional dessert of a bourbon milkshake.
