PI KAPPA ALPHA • UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS • SPRING 2020 INSIDE: Donor List • 2-3 Donor Spotlight • 4 Meet the 22 New Pike Graduates • 5 (Continued on page 3) I write this letter to you at an unprecedented time in history. As the novel coronavirus COVID-19 sweeps the nation, most of us find ourselves stuck at home under shelter-in-place orders. First and foremost, I want you all to know my thoughts are with you and your families. I hope that each and every one of you is safe and healthy and want to remind you of the strong support system you have in our great brotherhood. Most Pike actives are home and finishing the semester through UT Austin online learning. Summer 2020 classes will all be online as well but fall classes will reopen on campus as always. at means the on-schedule completion of the Centennial Pike House will be a welcome hub for returning students in August and for alumni visits in Austin. Fortunately, progress is right on schedule with polished concrete floors in the chapter and party rooms, sports court poured, sheetrock complete on the third floor, inspections passed on second floor sheetrock and kitchen work almost complete. 2400 Leon Street Project Perseveres During COVID -19 Construction Continues, Campaign Surpasses $4.3 Million A lumni and the chapter marked Founders' Day, March 1, in Austin with the annual meeting of the Beta Mu Building Co., a lunch and birthday cake at Bert's BBQ, followed by walking tours of the Centennial Pike house construction project—which at the time was 65% complete (today it is 80% complete and on schedule for a Summer 2020 grand opening). Big thanks to special guests International Pike President Mark Dziatczak and EVP Justin Buck for joining us in Austin for the occasion and for presenting the chapter with a replica of its original charter dated March 20, 1920. anks to Pike Lone Star Region President Nat Mucha for also attending. Brother Buck informed us that Beta Mu Chapter is part of a select group of just 16 chapters (of 305 total granted Pike charters) that have oper- ated continuously for 100 years or more. Almost 3,000 men have been initiated at Texas Pike, ranking our chapter 6th in total initiates in the fraternity's 152-year history! Congratulations to the many men and their families who have been part of Beta Mu's success over the years. Beta Mu is well positioned to build another cen- tury-long legacy of friendship and brotherhood, academic excellence, campus leadership on e 40 Acres, and building gentleman of the highest character. Happy 100th birthday Beta Mu! Beta Mu sent 11 brothers to the late February Pike University regional training in Plano. Our men met with other promising leaders f rom chapters across Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Colorado and Kansas to learn best practices on chapter and house management, recruitment and brotherhood, as well as personal and professional development.
