The
Perfect
Picnic
Magic is in the air just off the beaten path near
Fayetteville Technical Community College.
The area once was used by the school's
horticulture technology program, but now serves
as a secluded, shaded, tree-filled area for walkers
and for those hoping to steal a few quiet moments.
You would never know you're just a few steps from
Morganton and Fort Bragg roads.
For Angie and Ray Malave, it was the perfect
spot for a romantic picnic that included bite-
sized delicacies and a chilled bottle of rose wine.
As the owner of The Wine Café and The Coffee
Cup in downtown Fayetteville, Angie knows a
thing or two about pairing foods with beverages.
She's also been seen tooling around town in her
"WINEmbulance," making deliveries to quarantined
connoisseurs during coronavirus-era restrictions.
The two epitomize romance. They were even born
on the same day, July 7, 1967. They were middle
school sweethearts in Aguada, Puerto Rico, went
their separate ways and reconnected years later.
The Malaves will celebrate a decade of marriage in
December.
