All canned fruit / vegetables MUST be displayed in cleaned and sealed standard pint jars. Only standard Kerr, Ball, Mason, etc. pint jars will be accepted. Jars must have a new/clean ring on the lid. 2. Exhibits must be labeled with the date of food preservation and method of preservation. Method must state whether canned in water bath, pressure canned or other – Entries without required labeling will not be judged. Labels will be placed on the entry tag at the time of entry. Labels are available from the County Extension Office prior to the fair and at the fairgrounds at check-in. 3. Current USDA guidelines are recommended. Judging will follow USDA guidelines. 4. All foods must have been canned /dried within the last 12 months but at least 1 week before the fair. 5. Peppers and jellies may be entered in ½ pint jars. 6. No products, including pickles should use food coloring except specialty pickle products. 7. Dried foods should be exhibited in standard pint or ½ pint canning jars with lids and rings. Jars should not be sealed. 8. Fancy packs are discouraged. 9. No canned squash including summer, zucchini, or spaghetti, pureed or mashed pumpkin, sweet potatoes or potatoes will be judged. Pickled summer squash or zucchini are allowed. Cubed winter squash, potatoes and pumpkin will be accepted. 2020 Benton County Fair 61
