Responding to COVID-19 D ue to the COVID-19 pandemic, the house at 500 Sunset has been closed since the end of spring break. However, that hasn't stopped the brothers from staying involved while remaining at home. Recruitment Chairmen Carter Black '22 and Casey Lanoue '23 have been hard at work adapting a different recruiting method, utilizing one-on-one Zoom calls. They will also hold calls with select active members and potential new recruits. The brothers have also stayed in touch by having Zoom chapter meetings and pledge class bonding calls. So far, we have 25 new members recruited for the fall 2020 class. Through it all, the executive team has worked with the advisors and housing corporation to discuss financials of the house, planning for next year, staying active on social media, and future recruitment. We know that Gamma Epsilon Chapter will come back stronger than ever when in-person classes resume. The S p h i n x SPRING 2020 Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Beta Theta Pi B rothers, I hope that this newsletter finds you well. These are strange and trying times indeed, but I hope the relationships you made in the fraternity are helping you get through this isolation a little better. Inside this newsletter, you'll find updates regarding how Gamma Epsilon is adapting to the COVID-19 pandemic while continuing to provide an excellent fraternity experience, some spotlights regarding a few of our outstanding alumni, and a save the date for an alumni event in the fall! We have a few plans in place in case the social isolation carries into football season, but we wanted to make sure we got something on people's calendars. Our alumni base has not hosted a consistent event for a long time. The alumni relations team feels strongly this needs to become an important part of our chapter culture. We hope to start small and have a similar event each year so we can start building a strong tradition that alumni can be proud of. Gamma Epsilon is more than our collegiate experiences, and we are excited to play a role in facilitating brotherhood long after we have left 500 Sunset. If you have any questions, concerns, feedback, or are interested in helping plan this event, don't hesitate to contact me directly. Any conversation is appreciated! Stay-at-home measures have provided unique challenges for all of us. Personally, I wish I was not cooped up in my house alone and could enjoy the great spring weather! The fraternity is helping me get through this––I am staying sane by reaching out to my brothers and reconnecting to remember the fond times we had while planning for the next time we can get together. I encourage you all to do the same. We will get through this stronger together than alone, and I am happy to provide an appropriate directory for you if you would like to follow up with your brothers. I am always here to help and support. If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, please reach out to me!
