ALPHA TAU OMEGA • UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-LINCOLN • SPRING 2020 Impact of COVID-19 In March, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln announced that classes were to be taught remotely and, as a result of the news, the ATΩ Board of Directors had communication with the office of fraternity and sorority life at UNL to discuss the best options for the undergraduates and their families. Over spring break, the house was closed and professionally cleaned. Following spring break, the house was open to the executive team, the house director, and other members requesting special permission. All other members were asked to move home for the remainder of the semester. Summer recruitment is currently expected to take place following the social distancing guidelines. The fall semester will follow the direction of official social distancing guidelines in place at that time. Annual Giving Program The Board of Directors had previously mentioned it is looking to launch an annual giving program. This program has been temporarily put on hold for 2020, but be on the lookout for how you can participate in the future. Building on the success of our capital campaign, we know our alumni will see the value in supporting the chapter for years to come. Scholarship Opportunities Identifying and developing leaders is an area Gamma Theta is proud to call one of our biggest strengths. By establishing additional scholarship opportunities for these leaders, we will build on the chapter's ability to make a difference both on campus and in the community. If you have knowledge or interest in working with the Board of Directors and the UNL Foundation in the development process for these scholarships, please email ATOnebraska@gmail.com. Mentor Program Members of the Board of Directors have connected with other fraternity alumni groups who have cultivated successful alumni mentoring programs. We are grateful for the insight they provided and hope to have our own program established soon. If you have interest in being a mentor, please email ATOnebraska@gmail.com. FACING CHALLENGES Important Updates from the Gamma theta Board of dIrectors Alumni Volunteer Opportunities Serving on the Board of Directors doesn't require an eastern Nebraska address, just a willingness to participate. Virtual attendance of board meetings on the phone or behind the scenes work on committees are both ways to give back to ATΩ. If you have knowledge, skills, time, or just a heart to serve please email ATOnebraska@ gmail.com to find out how to volunteer. Alumni in the Community Gamma Theta needs your help spotlighting brothers in future issues of A-Tau Observer. Do you know a brother who's making a difference in the world during the coronavirus pandemic? Are you one of them? We want to hear from you! Tell us stories about healthcare heroes, men handling crisis management, brothers who are involved with nonprofit or volunteer organizations that are community lifelines—any brothers with purpose who we should feature in a future Gamma Theta publication. Let's shine some light on our courageous brothers. Please email ATOnebraska@gmail.com if you know a brother who deserves recognition. Campaign Update While the capital campaign has ended, some still have future pledge installments. Please remember to be diligent in paying your remaining pledge balance. If you missed a payment, need a reminder resent, or have a question about your pledge, please contact our campaign coordinator at (785) 843-1661. Contributions can still be made online at atonebraska.org/campaign or you can mail a check to Gamma Theta, P.O. Box 401, Elkhorn, NE 68022. Thank you for staying connected with Gamma Theta Chapter of Alpha Tau Omega. We appreciate your support and encourage you to reach out to your ATΩ brothers during this time of uncertainty. Love and Respect, Gamma Theta Board of Directors
