These come at 1:30 a.m. or 4 a.m. Don't ask why—it's just one of those things "everybody knows." This revelation came at 1:30 a.m. It involves one of my favorite sayings, "You are trading these 24 hours for one day of your life." Or if you prefer, "You are trading this day for 24 hours of your life." Meaning? Get with it. The day you waste you will never get back. Life is short; shorter the older we get. Each day is precious. We were into the second week of the Coronavirus "lockdown" before I realized. I was waiting for each 24 hour day to drag by so I could get on to the next one. With noth- ing accomplished. Just another day down the drain. Endless hours. And feeling pouty; 84 year old teenagers are not pretty! Alright, so I may not accom- plish momentous things but even little bitty things would be bet- ter than nothing. Today's little things started yesterday. (Aw, The Beatles, "Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away .") And then, "I drove down the street like I knew I should": how many song titles have I got fl oating around in my head? I went to my favorite (about the only one open) RV sup- ply store and bought wheel covers to protect the wheels of my trailer from the sun. Trotted out of the store with my purchases, plopped into the car and…..it wouldn't start, it wouldn't turn over or even click. The store manager, a sweet guy and kinda cute too, applied some fi rst aid and sent me to a tire shop. Tire shop?? I don't need tires. I need a car that starts! "Sokay" he says, "they do starters and other stuff too." (I wondered, when I use the starter will the tires vibrate and purr too?) Tire shop says, "Tomorrow." To- morrow? "Early tomorrow. Gotta order the parts." I call my "ad- opted sister (I'll bet she's sorry for that), and they rescue me and de- liver me like UPS to my door step. Now to spend a quiet afternoon. Listen? Hear that? There's ice cream in the freezer and it's calling my name. Hmm, this ice cream was hard as a witch's hat before and now it's soft? What gives? My refrigerator is dying? Gasp- ing its last breath! Really, it was suffering from heat exhaustion, fortunately, it didn't get to heat stroke that would have been deadly. Neighbors to the rescue. I, yeah me, remove the cover on the outside refrigerator vent and my neighbor, who has everything and more in his back yard, hauls over a plywood panel and we prop it up against the trailer to shade the re- frigerator. You see, the refrigera- tor is on the side of my trailer that faces smack dab into the western sun and it was simply cooking my poor frig, not to mention melting my ice cream. Life is just one challenge after another, isn't it? A friend calls them "Opportunities," so I have more than enough "opportunities" to ….what? Loose what's left of my mind? Holler, and stomp my feet? I won't say something like "to grow as an individual and become all that I can be." People who say things like that, write books and become millionaires. I'd just be putting on "aires" and no millions. Anybody for some soft ice cream? Please pass the chocolate sauce.
