June 1 Yuma, AZ – Yuma/La Paz Coun- ties Community College District has released its Truth in Taxation infor- mation for the fi scal year 2020-2021 budget, in compliance with Arizona Revised Statue 15-1461.01. According to the Truth in Taxation information, the College is propos- ing no increase in the primary tax rate over fi scal year 2019-2020. The current tax will provide an addition- al $533,814 in revenues. Without a tax increase, the total taxes owed on a $100,000 home will be $219.49. The College's secondary tax rate is proposed to continue at .3626 as the College continues to have an out- standing general obligation debt. Details concerning the impact of this proposal to maintain the cur- rent property tax rate, are listed in the Truth in Taxation Notice pub- lished in the Yuma Sun and the Parker Pioneer on April 29 and May 6, 2020. The District's publicly elected fi ve- member Governing Board will hold a public hearing on the proposed fi scal year 2020-2021 budget, prop- erty tax rates, and levies on Thurs- day, May 14, 2020. The public hear- ing will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Frances Morris Board Room in the College Community Center (3C) and conducted through Zoom, on the Arizona Western College campus at 2020 South Avenue 8E, Yuma, Ari- zona. The boardroom will be closed to the public. The audience area of the boardroom will be closed for the meeting as AWC is following the federal Centers of Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) guidelines and limiting the amount of people present in the room to 10. A Special Meeting to vote on fi scal year 2020-2021 budget, property tax rates, and levies will follow the public hearing. During the Special Meeting, the Governing Board will consider a motion to levy the prop- erty tax by a roll call vote and will take effect on July 1, 2020. The Board's Regular Meeting for May is scheduled to begin immedi- ately following the Special Meeting. Governing Board meetings are open to the public.
