Being Careful with Water
is Good for our Earth
Many people in the world do not have
enough clean water to drink or to use for
washing themselves and their food.
You can find ways to use less water every
day, and clever ways to re-use water.
Here are some of them:
1. Turn off
the faucets
When brushing
your teeth or
scrubbing your
soapy hands and
face, turn off the
faucet so you
don't let water
just run down the
drain.
2. Tightly turn off the faucets
Check the faucets in your home to make
sure they are tightly turned off! A small,
slow drip that can waste a lot of water over
time.
3. To flush, or not to flush?
Okay, if it's number 2, you should definitely
flush. But each time a toilet is flushed, it
uses about 5 gallons
of water. If you just
have to go number
1, you don't have
to flush every time.
(Ask your adult
about this first!)
4. Watering
the grass
Collect "old" water from leftover water
bottles, half-drank cups or boiling eggs,
(after the water has cooled) and use it to
water your grass and bushes instead of
turning on the sprinklers or the hose in the
middle of the day. Your plants, grass and
flowers would love that water you would
normally pour down the drain!
5. Washing your pet
Wash your pet outside, in an area of the
lawn that needs water! You'll get a clean pet
and a happy lawn too!
It is so helpful to our
whole world when we
are careful with our
water!
