When water reaches 32 degrees Fahrenheit,
it turns to ice. That change from liquid to solid
can create hours of fun for curious kids like
you!
Use an ice cube tray, or a plastic container
and see what you can freeze!! (Ask your adult
for permission!)
Try small toys, legos, flowers, beads, leaves,
shells, and rocks. Some of the objects may
crack if they are frozen, so don't use your
most favorite things.
If you are using an ice cube tray, fill tray
about ¾ full of water, add objects, and put in
freezer.
OR
Fill the plastic container with about an inch of
water. Add three or four toys or objects and
freeze.
When the first layer is frozen solid, add more
water and a few more toys or objects. Repeat
this process until your container is full and you
have a solid block of ice. It may take a couple
of days to create your ice block.
After the ice is frozen, take it outside to
excavate. See how long it takes to melt.
Experiment with using warm water, spray
bottles, paintbrushes, spoons, salt or various
tools to free the objects out of the ice.
