Cit yV iewN C.co m | 15 one of us down the stairs. I also share your fear that one day I may go down to the basement to put something away and discover, as I climb back up to the first floor, that Bette Davis is standing at the top in full Baby Jane mode awaiting my return. You also never complained about our treatment of you during the great kitchen and bathroom renovation nine years ago when we stripped you down to the studs, exposing you to the world. You handled that situation with as much dignity as you could muster and waited patiently for the day when you would be restored to an even better condition than before, with additional space and fresh paint that wasn't bright pink (I have learned a few decorating tricks over the years). Your owner can't claim to have acted in a similarly calm and dignified manner. You quietly listened as I used every profanity I knew (and some that I made up) on those occasions when my patience was sorely tested by workers who didn't show up on time, workers who showed up when they weren't expected, and inspectors who postponed visits to restore our electricity. You and I enjoyed a daily cocktail made from your serenity and my insanity. It was a heady brew. rough all of these domestic adventures, you have remained constant in your stoic acceptance of us and our many quirks, especially mine. You have allowed us to turn you into our home, and you have always given us the feeling that you stand ready to embrace us whenever we return. So, dear humble abode, I send you not only my thanks, but also my love.
