Arkansas Children's Hospital has been
ranked by US News for five pediatric
specialities which include: Cardiology &
Heart Surgery; Nephrology; Neurology and
Neurosurgery; Orthopedics; Pulmonology
and Lung Surgery. The 233,000+ square foot
facility has the only pediatric emergency
room in Northwest Arkansas. The Arkansas
Children's Research Institute in Springdale has
been instrumental in oral immunotherapy for
food allergies in children. In January, 2020, the
FDA approved the first drug to treat children's
peanut allergies which was pioneered at
Arkansas Children's Research Institute.

Mercy opened their new $141 million
patient tower and McMillon Family Heart
Unit in November 2019, after three years
of construction and nearly $280 million of
regional investment. The addition added
279,000 square feet and 70 new patient beds,
with additional patient beds being added
later. The addition also doubled the size of the
neonatal intensive care unit, and added to the
pediatric unit.
