Keeping Close with Kappa Alpha Spring 2020 Celebrate 105 Years of Kappa Alpha with Your Chi O Sisters House Corporation Board Plans Out Spring Chapter House Projects I want to wish a wonderful start to spring to my Kappa Alpha sisters. The House Corporation board is gearing up for our 105th reunion in April. Aside from doing routine maintenance to take care of some wear and tear at 1516 McCain Lane, we are getting ready for our big spring project, which is a pipe replacement in the basement study room (formerly the Chapter room). We had some leaks last summer, which caused a loss of carpet, furniture, and wood storage cabinets. The pipes will be replaced over spring break and then new flooring, paint, and furniture will be purchased and installed. The members are looking forward to using their study and project room again. For our environmentally minded undergraduates, we have purchased recycle bins and non-plastic/paper plates and utensils for the kitchenette. We have a few other projects that we'd like to take care of this spring or summer, if possible: Insulation in the attic. Have a study/estimate done on the north driveway (exit) and a possible decorative retaining wall north of that driveway. The driveway is crumbling because of mud and water seeping down the hill to the north. The bunk beds are about 25 years old and in dire need of replacement. The undergraduates have put new bunk beds at the top of their wish list. As you can see, there's always something that needs fixed or replaced at our beloved 55-year-old Chi Omega house. As a board, our challenge is to maintain, repair, and replace things when needed, such as plumbing, internet service, security, furniture, appliances, and flooring. We are also charged with keeping the house clean and updated so that it is a place where 18- to 21-year-olds want to live and call home. To help keep our beautiful home in pristine condition, please consider making a contribution to Kappa Alpha if you haven't done so recently. Contributions can be made to the Chi Omega Holding Corporation or the Chi Omega Foundation-Kappa Alpha Chapter. If you have any questions on how you can give, please contact our campaign coordinator at ssmoot@penningtonco.com. Your gift will ensure that Chi Omega remains a top sorority at K-State. Our upcoming reunion will be a great time to see what we've been doing and what needs to be done to the Chapter House. Thank you so much for the support you've given through the years. We so look forward to seeing you in April! She grew up with two brothers, so this already meaningful step in life would be her first time having sisters. "In retrospect, that gut feeling was correct," Audrey says. "College is a pivotal phase of life, with opportunities to both succeed and fail. A house full of sisters is like a safety net, and with their help you begin to realize that you can fall and then get back up again." Audrey lives in Dallas, Texas, where she is a labor and employment lawyer and senior partner at the law firm of Munck Wilson Mandala LLP. She has been named a Texas Super Lawyer every year from 2010 to 2019 (with 2020 names yet to be announced), recognized four times as Best Lawyer in Dallas by D Magazine, and named 2019 Fellow by the K-State College of Business Administration.
