"She works hard and she works her board hard by keeping them actively engaged. I don't think we'd be where we are without her leadership." e foundation essentially operates as a clearinghouse for giving. People wishing to contribute can create their own fund to support any cause they wish, or they can contribute to an existing fund, which includes endowments for 30 partnership non-profits, scholarship funds, and educational funds for area schools. Donors can give cash, stocks, bonds and mutual funds or even real estate and personal property. A key to CCF's success, according to Bryan, is that Holmes has fostered a spirit of inclusiveness in the foundation – everyone's contribution matters. "You don't have to be a high wealth individual to participate. It's an important part of what we are," Bryan said. CCF's goal to fund programs that enhance the quality of life for all in Cumberland County and surrounding areas resonates with Holmes. She particularly points to the interaction with donors who may have lost a loved one and want to establish a legacy. For example, the Cole Humphrey Memorial Endowment was created in memory of Cole Humphrey, a Cape Fear High School football and baseball standout. e endowment supports the school's athletics, especially the baseball and football programs. Currently, the endowment has provided more than $12,000 for the school and its students. "You meet the nicest people, and you oen meet them during their darkest hour," Holmes said. "You get involved in the very personal side of giving." 536 N. Eastern Blvd., Fayetteville, NC capefearbg.org 910.486.0221 Saturday, April 4, 2020 11am-5pm Come join us for a "barking good" time!
