the Fraternity and Sorority Preserving the Greek experience for 4 Why I Support FSPAC Dan Shaver, ΣΧ, (Texas Tech University) Describes His Decision to Join the FSPAC Board W e have all watched institutions of higher education become increasingly short-sighted and reactionary in addressing individual behaviors in the interest of creating a positive collegiate experience for their students. In the process, basic freedoms and rights that should be afforded to all students are often stripped away. FSPAC is committed to support those candidates who, like us, believe students have rights that should be defended, and are willing to hold colleges accountable to the principles of transparency, honesty and fairness. These efforts deserve action and support from all who value freedom and equality. I joined the FSPAC board because I wanted to take an active role in helping protect the rights of college students, allowing them to choose for themselves with whom they wish to associate, and how they apply the lofty principles inherent in the Greek experience. While my college degree attempted to prepare me for what I would do in my life, it was my fraternity experience that taught me who I would become – which has been far more important. In living out my fraternal promise to always strive for improvement, I have come to know, admire and love countless interfraternal friends, who enrich the lives of others every day, and add depth and meaning to my life. In preparing students for success, some colleges fail to address the undeniable trend of student isolation and depression, often triggered by digital overload and lack of in-person, connected activities. Greek participation in collaboration, connection, mentoring, sharing, conflict resolution and community service is unparalleled by comparison to other campus organizations. FSPAC is determined to ensure a positive and accountable sorority or fraternity experience remains each student's choice. 2020 Executive Committee President Phyllis Grissom, DDD President-Elect Ben Satcher Jr., KA Order VP Communications Tom Decker, DSF VP Fundraising Mike Greenberg, SC VP Political Affairs Andrea Bechtel, CW Secretary Leslie Williams, DZ Treasurer Val Lawlor, AF Executive Director Kevin O'Neill, LCA Executive Committee Members David Ashinoff, SC Julie Burkhard, ACW Maureen Calloway Carnevale, ADP Laurie Connor, KAQ Dan Corah, PKA Howard Pickett, SN Betty Quick, GFB Larry Wiese, KA Order I n 2019, the FSPAC board made two decisions to modify its rules to allow contributions to entities beyond individual candidate campaigns: • Leadership PACs (LPACs). This expansion provides more funding opportunities for our champions in Congress and increased flexibility in supporting those Senators who are not up for re-election in the current campaign cycle but who have influence over our issues. • Party Congressional Committees. Donating directly to these committees allows us access to many events throughout the year with multiple Congressional members and candidates per event. These are held in settings that allow more in-depth conversations and relationship-building.
