Concordia Retirement Community was part of John Cooper, Sr.'s vision for Bella Vista, who wanted the community to have a place that provided continuing care and trouble-free living for seniors. "e Cooper brothers hand- picked the spot on the bluff overlooking Sugar Creek," says Concordia Executive Director Angie Clark. "ey felt it was an ideal, picturesque location for a senior retirement community." Making good on the vision, Concordia opened its doors in 1972. e main campus, high on the hill, contains both townhomes and apartments, with 20 additional assisted living apartments. A skilled nursing facility is located next to the Assisted Living property; however, it is owned separately. "We take pride in the fact that we've been around so long," Angie says. "We are established, we have experience with the senior population, and know what it takes to help people move into a new phase of life. e family feel and staff of Concordia set it apart. It takes a team, and staff members go beyond the norm to treat residents like family." "Many of our key staff members have been here for a long time…everyone from housekeeping to maintenance, to dining," Angie points out. "eir calling to serve others shows.
