2020 MCDONALD COUNTY DIRECTORY | 11 Anderson: A town with a berry-rich history Discount Dollar/Town & Country Market Local proprietors part of Anderson's history Sponsor Content Like many others who live in Anderson, long-time residents Adam and Nicole Cooper love the small town atmosphere here. "Everybody knows everybody else, you really are surrounded by folks who are your friends," Nicole said. "I feel like we are living in Mayberry from the old Andy Griffith Show." Nicole did not have the experience of actually growing up in Anderson, but her husband Adam did. "I love the small town feel we have here," Adam agreed. "I lived in Florida for a short time but I think I always knew I would come back home. Nicole and I have lived here all of our married life." The Coopers' investment in Anderson is more than an emotional one. They also own two businesses in town—the Town & Country Supermarket and the Discount Dollar store—which have deep roots in the Cooper family tree. "My grandparents were involved in the building of Town & Country Supermarket back in the 60s," Adam said. "My grandfather managed the store from the time it opened, then bought the store and later sold it to my dad." The store was later sold but was brought back into the family by Adam and Nicole a couple of years after they opened the Discount Dollar store back in 2005. Each business is unique and serves important roles in the lives of the people who make up the Anderson community. "Town & Country is a full-service supermarket," Adam Cooper explained. "We've got fresh meat, fresh produce, and a full-service deli - the whole nine yards! In addition, the Discount Dollar store right next door is great for low priced everyday needs and amazing treasure hunting." Town & Country is open seven days a week and offers pretty much anything you would want to keep your household stocked with groceries and fresh foods. Town & Country has a great website (townandcountryanderson.com) where you will find creative recipes and meal planners. You can also print out valuable coupons and sign-up to get more coupons sent right to your inbox. If you are looking for a fun place to just go and browse around, the Discount Dollar store has anywhere from 20,000 to 50,000 items on any given day for you to peruse. It is stocked full of crafts, party supplies, everyday household goods, and more, and it is the perfect place for the savvy bargain hunter to score some great here today, gone tomorrow specials. "What's fun about the Discount Dollar store is it's different every time you visit," Adam said. "Some of the items are static but a lot are here today, gone tomorrow. And we are constantly shopping around for hot new items to bring to our customers at bargain prices." Town & Country is open Monday through Saturday 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with beverage service until 10:00 p.m. and Sunday 8:00 a.m to 8:00 p.m. Discount Dollar is also open seven days a week: Monday through Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
