Quartzsite Desert Flyers The Quartzsite Desert Flyers, (the radio controlled fl ying club) is start- ing its 14th season in Quartzsite this year. We welcome back all experi- enced, new fl yers and spectators to another season of fl ying and cama- raderie. The club has a membership of 100 fl yers of all levels: from begin- ner to the most advanced. We meet each morning, weather permitting at the James B. Colwell Field, 780 North Plymouth Road. Each Thurs- days staring at dusk we night fl y. At the fi eld we have a full 625 ft. runway, capable of handling even jets. We have a "cross runway" to take advantage of the northwest winds we frequently experience in Quartzsite. The fi eld consists of six fl ight stations, 18 outside work benches and a solid covered shelter to work in out of the wind. The area is covered with carpet to keep the dust down. Our monthly business meeting is held the second Wednesday of every month at Jimmy's hangar, 1365 Datig Drive at 9:00 am. Mem- bership fees are $10.00 annually and a membership in the A.M.A. (Academy of Model Aeronautics) is mandatory. If you have any interest in fl ying, wish to learn how to fl y, or just want to be a spectator and talk to the pilots feel free to join us. Please don't be shy. For more infor- mation phone 916-616-7725. This season's Fun Fly and Air Show will be three days, February 14, 15, and 16, 2020. February 14 will have a demonstration of night fl ying, Saturday will be our regular air show, expanded to take in the afternoon, the fi nal day will have an informal fun fl y and a swap meet. A light lunch will be available on the Saturday. Into the wild blue yonder Arizona Residents Get Free Admission To State Parks This Martin Luther King, Jr. Day PHOENIX – This Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, all Arizona residents will get free admission to more than 30 beautiful state parks. Entrance fees at state parks will be waived for all Arizona residents on Monday, January 20, 2020. Vis- itors must show an Arizona ID for free entrance. Fees will still apply at Tubac Presidio State Historic Park, for cave tours at Kartchner Caverns State Park, tours, camping, special events and concessions. "Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a great time to head out to one of Ar- izona's more than 30 state parks," said Arizona Governor Doug Ducey. "Admission is free for all Arizona residents in honor of the holiday. I encourage everyone to get outside on Monday and visit a state park for a hike, event or adventure."
