We are part of a larger District #5490, with Duce Minor (of Parker Rotary) being our new District Governor this July 1st. Once in a while there is a very worthwhile project that comes up where we Quartzsite Rotarians are joining in for the "cause". Rotarians of our Arizona District have joined together with "Kids Against Hunger" (http://kidsagainsthunger.org/) for our Rotary Centennial. Yes, Rotary has been in Arizona for 100 years this year. The service project chosen was to pack ONE MILLION Meals to help feed the world! Well, on Saturday, April 6th, our District Rotarians including several of us from Quartzsite are traveling to Phoenix's Washington High School for the "AZ Centennial Million Meals Kick-Off." We will all gather as an assembly and help pack our first 30,000 meals and we get to bring back some of these packed meals for our own Food Bank! Not only is this a great service project, but it is a time all attending Rotarians get to bring their families to socialize and learn more about the Rotary, its programs, and just plain ole doing good by providing a much needed service. As soon as the 30,000 meals are packed, and a portion distributed to our local charities, the balance will be picked up by the "Kids Against Hunger" organization who will deliver the rest of the meals to the needy in Haiti and the Philippines. The mission of Kids Against Hunger, a humanitarian food-aid organization, is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the USA and to feed starving children throughout the world. Last year alone, volunteers at Kids Against Hunger's food packaging centers across the USA packaged forty million meals for children and their families around the world and around the corner. We, as Rotarians, are proud to help deliver "Kids Against Hunger's" food in the USA and worldwide through our humanitarian partnership. It is important to help those in need around the world as it is to help our own here.
