U ndergraduate brothers are building on Alpha Lambda's 102 years of success. They continue to lead on the OSU campus and are thriving as a brotherhood. This summer, they were awarded the Bruce McIntosh Standards of Excellence Award. The summer before, they won the Grand High Alpha Award. While these are national awards, they are indicative of ΛΧΑ's leadership on campus. Even more remarkable is that they are achieving this success despite utilizing a chapter house that is well past it's useful life. At 55 years old, major systems are failing. Escalating maintenance costs highlight why we must act now, with more than $250,000 spent on maintenance in just the last six years. This is not sustainable as each passing year brings critical repair and maintenance issues to address. The good news is that alumni brothers and friends of Alpha Lambda have stepped forward to support Building for Our Second Century with pledges of more than $934,000 and a recent $50,000 pledge challenge. Our sincere thanks to all who have made gifts! As a result of this positive momentum, the house corporation has increased the immediate campaign goal to $2 million. We ask that every brother consider donating to help secure Alpha Lambda's future at Oregon State during this crucial time. We are excited to share Lucinda and John Fournier '90-1335 have committed to matching every new pledge up to $50,000. Remember, gifts can be spread over a five-year period. Utilizing this option, pledges of $1,000, $2,500, $5,000, $10,000, or $25,000 would mean annual gifts of $200, $500, $1,000, $2,000, or $5,000, respectively—potentially fitting more easily into your annual budget. Regardless of the size of your gift, your participation is needed, greatly appreciated, and will make a difference! The breadth of Alpha Lambda's impact over the past 100-plus years was reflected in two events over the past couple of months. On September 1, our oldest living alumnus, Dean Barnes (see Alpha Lambda Remembers on page 3) passed away—11 days prior to his 100th birthday. Born in 1919, Dean lived a life of service, including in World War II. As a donor to Building for Our Second Century, Dean wanted to impact the lives of future brothers. This includes the 2019 class of 46 new associate members—largest on the OSU campus—that joined Alpha Lambda on October 5 in the traditional 'Jump' event at the Memorial Union.
