Keeping Close with Kappa Alpha
Fall 2019
A Superior Home for
a Superior Sisterhood
Kappa Alpha Welcomes New House Director and Updated Amenities
T
he summer of 2019 was a crazy and busy one! Our
house director of three years, Jan Tidball, retired at
the end of the spring semester, and our new house
director, Ginny Young, started her position on July 1. Jan
will be missed; she was a great house director, both for the
active sisters as well as the House Corporation. We all wish
her the best (and better sleep!) in her retirement.
Ginny is an artist and worked as a kitchen and bath designer
prior to her position at 1516 McCain Lane. She has hit the
ground running since she started, and we appreciate her
patience and perseverance. Of course, the active members
welcomed her with open arms.
SUMMER UPDATES COMPLETE
Chapter House maintenance kept us hopping this summer.
This included water in the laundry room, the three washing
machines conking out, a leak in the basement study room (loss
of carpet, furniture and storage), and a small bat problem. We
are still working on the basement study room, but we now
have three new commercial grade washing machines.
PROVIDING FOR OUR ACTIVE MEMBERS
The actives requested a cozy area to study or watch tv, so
the House Corporation updated the "Blue Lou," formerly
known as the Blue (or Green) Lounge. We are very thankful
for our new vice president of facilities, Megan Riley Rahe
'81, and her help in setting the room up just in time for
recruitment house tours. Another item checked off our to-do
list was the purchase of 120 chairs (and two chair carts) to
be used for Chapter meetings.
If any of you have any questions or would be interested in
joining the House Corporation, please contact me. We meet
quarterly, enjoy working together, and love meeting the new
members and leaders of Kappa Alpha each year!
Lovingly Yours in Chi Omega,
Kim Elston Jacobson '80
