Well, the ladies have been gathering the 1st Tuesday of the month for lunch at various local restaurants ever since. The ladies order off the menu and share a little bit about themselves or current events. It's been a great way for newcomers to meet oth- ers. Tuesday, Dec. 3rd starting at 12 noon. Quartzsite TOPS Quartzsite Museum News The Quartzsite Museum has re- sumed our Winter Hours (Wednes- day thru Sunday 10 am to 4 pm) with new docents this year! Come meet and welcome our new staff. The Quartzsite Museum is OPEN and there is a lot happening there! Thanks to a grant from the Arizona Historical Society we are pleased to announce two new displays: The History of the C.R.I.T. Indian Tribes and The Secrets of Camp Bouse. We developed a partnership with the Colorado River Indian Tribes coun- cil museum and they created an ex- hibit that shares historical informa- tion about each of the local tribes. Working with a researcher from the Bouse Museum we have added a display that tells the story of the very secret and mostly unknown Camp Bouse, which was only recently de- classifi ed. In addition, we have added Local Animals: An exhibit that shares information about the local fauna. This exhibit was developed by a new volunteer who has considerable ex- perience in wildlife education. Last year we introduced a series of 5 lectures in conjunction with the Friends of the Library and thanks to a generous grant from the Arizona Humanities Council. This year we will resume that series with a list of new speakers with exciting topics. Save the dates for these fascinating glimpses into the past: December 19: Gregory McNamee, The Gila: River of History January 9: Laura Tohe, From "Chief" to Code Talker: Four Pro- fi les of the Navajo Code Talkers January 23: Natalie J. Stewart- Smith, The Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) of WW II February 6: Kevin Schindler, The- odore Roosevelt Slept Here February 13: Steve Renzi, Barbed Wire, Windmills and Railroads – The Technology that Really Won the West The presentations will be from 7pm to 9 pm. at the Community Center, 295 E. Chandler Our fi rst "fi eld trip" was held dur- ing the Buck Connor Days celebra- tion. A total of 48 people joined us for a tour of historic sites in town. Participants met our Field Trip Tour Guide Lynn at various sites to learn more about the history. Lynn asked that we particularly acknowledge the donation of a public address system by Mark and Linda Goldberg, which helped tremendously with the tour. The tour was most informative and was enhanced by the participation of other town members who knew the history of specifi c sites. Our next fi eld trip will be on De- cember 18 to Salome and the Har- quehala Mine. We will be meeting at the Chamber of Commerce in Sa- lome at 10 am. Our fi eld trips are on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, are free to members and $3 for non- members. Watch for announce- ments of other trips… we will be go- ing to the Planet Ranch in January. Contact Lynn Stimson at 928-916- 4562 for more information. Our regular meeting of the Quartzsite Historical Society is on the second Tuesday of each month at the Quartzsite Library at 2 pm. The next meeting is December 11. We hope you will consider attending and possibly joining our organization! We are seeking assistance with some of our new projects! We have a display regarding Buck Connors, but are hoping that someone out there might have more Buck Con- nors memorabilia and specifi cally, copies of Buck Connors fi lms that they would donate to the museum. We are also seeking any local his- tory printed materials that we can reproduce, and possibly sell to our visitors. Local information is always welcome! We are also planning some new events and are seeking individuals with creative ideas to help with their development! We are no longer collecting cans and bottles for recycling. Check with the Food Bank, the last we heard they were able to process them. Membership of $10 for a year is encouraged. As a member you will receive e-mail notices of coming events, have free admission to our fi eld trips and have a vote in decisions being made regarding the Historical Society and Museum, in addition to helping fund the free Museum. We are a non-profi t historical so- ciety. Visiting the Museum is free, although donations are always welcome. The Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm through March 31. We are located at 161 Main Street (parking in rear). We are next door to Silly Al's. Phone (928) 927-5229. E-Mail QHS@TDS.net.
