ornaments used to adorn swags of
greenery.
As time has passed, Christmas has
become a little less elaborate at her
house. She no longer puts up a big tree
and instead uses a small metal tree
that she decorates with needlework
ornaments made by her mother. She still
decorates the mantel, puts up swags and
puts out other Christmas décor.
She got the idea for the wreath from
one made by a friend. A few years ago,
she decided to try her own hand at
making one. In pretty quick fashion,
she'd created a wreath that's filled with
memories and color.
It was easy. "It doesn't take long once
you get the glue gun going," she said.
Carole started with bits of greenery
and generic metallic balls, using the
glue gun to attach the items to the
wreath's form. at served as the base
on which other ornaments and items
could then be hot-glued.
e wreath is always changing – at
least a little bit. Sometimes ornaments
fall off and are broken beyond repair.
Sometimes new items are added.
Favorite ornaments that have broken
but which remain mostly whole can be
glued on, with the broken side down.
In the off season, the ornament
wreath lives on a hook in the basement.
en, from about November to
February, it lives on a hook on the
window inside Carole's kitchen where
she and R.B. can see it every day and
enjoy it.
"It makes me smile," she said.
Carole's colorful wreath
honors many special
memories and includes
souvenirs and favorite
ornaments, some of which
represent beloved dogs from
over the years.
