"e architecture of the homes is very interesting; the decorations are very interesting. A lot of people think it's a ladies' thing, but it's for everyone." Last year's tour drew about 200 people. All of the houses will be fancied up in the finest holiday decor and open for viewing during the tour. e homes aren't just lovely to look at, they can provide inspiration. "e idea is for people to get inspired by seeing what other people do in their homes for decorations," said Elaine Kennebeck, who is president of the Heritage Square Historical Society. "Some decorate with fresh greens, some decorate with homemade ornaments or an extensive collection of things. But personally, and for a lot of people like me, they go to see the home, the architecture and that type of thing." e Christmas Home Tour is one of the major fundraisers for the Heritage Square historical property, which includes the Sandford House (built in 1797), the Oval Ballroom (1818) and the Baker-Haigh-Nimocks House (1804). "It's three buildings, all historical buildings, all on the National Register of Historic Places," Kennebeck noted. "e Women's Club originally bought the property in 1946 and somehow managed to hang on to it all these years." The Christmas Home Tour is one of the major fundraisers for the Heritage Square historical property, which includes the Sandford House, the Oval Ballroom and the Baker-Haigh-Nimocks House.
