There are resources available on every campus and in every community to help with issues too big for our young people to handle alone." Robbie's Hope instructs parents to teach children to have a trusted adult, which can come in the form of a coach, a teacher or another adult and not necessarily you. Kari encourages her Sigma Psi sisters to reach out to one another. "Be real with one another and be available." A true testament of sisterhood was shown to Kari in her time of need. One ΚΔ sister traveled more than seven hours to attend Robbie's funeral, and another group of sisters sent a beautiful arrangement of long- stemmed white roses. "When I visited Fargo for Thanksgiving, I saw several ΚΔs. They listened just like we were at the ΚΔ house in our pajamas in the kitchen. It felt good to be supported by all my sisters. I gained power to keep going from the many thank-you notes and by offering advice based on my experience." "Mental health may not seem to apply to you or to your child, but this is far from the truth. Visit our website, www.robbies-hope.com, that is packed with information and provides resources to teens and adults. Mental illness is treatable, and the stigma around it needs to be removed. Suicide is the number one killer of teens in Colorado and many states and is the most preventable death." Robbie's Hope released a handbook this fall written by teens for adults on how they want to talk about mental health. "We will mail copies of these handbooks to anyone who wants them. These conversations could save a life." Reach out to Kari for more information at kari@robbies-hope.com or via phone at 720-366-0817.
