The innovator behind the scattered setting is based in Northridge, Calif., and is routinely asked to design en- gagement, wedding, and eternity bands— tasks that are consistently carried out with the unspoken and unconditional support of her spouse. And while she has participated in and witnessed romantic moments like design- ing her daughter's engagement ring and her proposal (on a beach in Malibu), some of her own romantic encounters may less obvious. Why? They involve sports. "I'm not a fan of basketball or any other sport, but my husband loves it when I go with him to Lakers' home games!" she reveals. "We do end up having fun." When She Pops the Question Since Severine Ferrari, founder of Engage- ment101.com, launched the Propose Too initiative last year to celebrate women pro- posing to their boyfriends, her website has shared more than 100 proposal stories. "I have been amazed by how romantic women are when proposing—they are so thoughtful and brave," she observes. Plus, Ferrari prac- tices what she preaches—she proposed to her own fi ancée. As for romance, it is "the sugar of a success- ful long-term relationship," she explains. "Ro- mance is about remembering to make time to celebrate and pamper your partner when they least expect it, but it's also connected to lon- gevity and not a single action." Promise Ring Dean Brinker, president of Brinker's Jewelers in Evansville, Ind., is the fourth generation of his family that helps area couples get married. To him, romance means his wife of 38 years, and he demonstrates some of his love and devotion to her through thoughtful anniver- sary gifts. For example, for the couple's 23rd wedding anniversary, he bought her a 2.3 ct. diamond. For their 27th wedding anniversary, he gifted her a 2.7 ct. diamond. And for the couple's 30th, he gave her a 5.7 ct. radiant- cut canary yellow diamond and told her "she owed me 30 more years," he says.
