Delta Chi Fraternity at Kansas State University P.O. Box 442100 Lawrence, KS 66044-2100 Address Service Requested THE SCIMITAR Why I Gave to Securing the Future of The Delta Chi Fraternity By Ed Redhair '74 I wanted to experience the fraternity life when I went to K-State in 1970. A buddy of mine from high school and I rushed Delta Chi and joined right away, not knowing anybody when we signed. I have stayed involved with the brotherhood for several reasons. After graduating with a degree in business administration, I got involved with the alumni. Being such a young fraternity, we didn't have much of an association and I enjoyed staying connected with the undergraduate class. Over the years, I have maintained six friendships I made when in the fraternity and regularly see and talk with them. We have also tailgated and vacationed with them and their spouses since we graduated. In addition to those brothers, there are several others who I stay in contact with. It amazes me that after 50 years, the bond between us continues to grow. I am retired after being fortunate to have been a small business owner. The experience of holding leadership positions at Delta Chi helped me in running those companies. I met my wife, Marlene, at K-State as she was a member of Chi Delphia, our little sister organization. We have now been married for 46 years. Together we've raised a son and daughter, both of whom graduated from K-State, gotten married, and given us five grandchildren. The current undergraduate class of Delta Chi has done a remarkable job, finding success in building and growing the number of members and having a big influence on campus, all without a physical house. I am hopeful that this capital campaign will enable them to secure permanent housing for The Delta Chi Fraternity. I know how much I value the lifelong friends that I made while in the fraternity, and I want the current and future members to have the opportunity to develop the type of bond that lasts a lifetime. I encourage all alumni to think back, cherish the moments and memories they had as a member of Delta Chi, and give to this capital campaign. Ed can be reached at edred1952@gmail.com.
