THE TAXI NEWS PAGE 3 ALPHA SIGMA RANKED FIRST IN GRADES Chapter Makes Academic Strides, Focuses on Fostering Positive Brotherhood Experience B radley's Greek life has been facing a difficult time recently. Fewer men attended this year's formal recruitment than in years past, and a total of 145 men accepted bids by the end of the process. However, our chapter welcomed eight of those men home this fall. Under the guidance of New Member Educator Joe Tarnowski '20, our associate member process has become more in line with the national organization's expectations, as well as still being as entertaining as previous years. ACADEMIC ACCOLADES Last fall, Alpha Sigma achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.33—the highest GPA of all IFC fraternities on Bradley's campus and the second highest of all Greek organizations. We attribute this achievement to the diligence and hard work of the quality men who make up our chapter, but also to the careful attention and interventions of Scholarship Chairman Trevor Smith '21. PHILANTHROPICALLY FOCUSED At the start of this semester, we planned to participate in the annual Walk MS charity event hosted by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, as we were unable to attend it last year. However, the walk happened at the same time as Anadexus, where we welcomed our new associate members. We instead opted for a digital fundraising campaign for the Walk MS to still participate. Our chapter raised a total of $865, with coordination by Reid Chapman '20 and help from the Janus and Kujanski families. Reid and his philanthropy committee are prepared to carry on the chapter's positive impact on our community with more events to come this year. ALUMNI KEY TO CHAPTER'S SUCCESS We thank all alumni who stay involved in our chapter, near and far. A special mention of gratitude should be made for the brothers who helped renovate one of our rooms downstairs to be better suited for two actives occupying it at once. Alumni involvement helps us keep our history in mind and gives us an example to follow while trying our best to live the purposes of Theta Xi. We are excited to see what the chapter will accomplish this year, and we gladly welcome you back to the chapter house anytime. We hope to see you in May! Yours in the Bonds, Gaudas Aleksonis '20 Chapter President galeksonis@mail.bradley.edu Above: Trevor Smith '21 spends his summer working for NASA as part of an internship. Top right: The fall 2019 associate member class is welcomed into the chapter alongside active members at Anadexus. Joseph Tarnowski '20 traveled to Seattle to work for Liberty Mutual Insurance over the summer. John Pokorn '22 demonstrates how to best use a chapter-constructed water slide outside of the chapter house as an attraction for this year's recruitment season. Alpha Sigma actives, accompanied by their friends and significant others, goof off during the spring semi-formal camping trip to Clinton Lake, Ill.
