THE LION TATTLER PAGO 2019 T he 37th annual Phi Alpha Golf Outing was held on Friday, September 13. The festivities started with lunch at J.T. Walkers in Mahomet, Ill., followed by golf at Lake of the Woods Golf Course. Twenty-four golfers competed in a scramble format with awards available to the lowest handicapped score, longest drive, closest to the pin, and longest putt. Following our golf game, there was a dinner at Alexanders in Champaign, Ill. After dinner, the golf awards were presented along with several ΣAE 25-year appreciation certificates. Half of the participants attended the Fighting Illini vs. Nebraska football game on Saturday night. Prior to the game, Brother Ed Hansen '87 sponsored a great tailgate. It was a great opportunity to get caught up with all of the brothers. Special thanks to Ed! In addition, Brother Tom Dillavou '82 provided an invitation to attend the tailgate at the Chancellor's Tent. Special thanks to Tom! This year's PAGO also celebrated the 40 year anniversary of the pledge classes of 1979 and 1979-50. Many memories were shared over the PAGO weekend, along with a few songs. One of the highlights for the alumni was a stop at the 211 chapter house. The alumni enjoyed hanging out on the west porch and looking at an Illinois Beta photo album from the late 1970's. The undergraduate brothers were very hospitable to the returning alumni and demonstrated the bonds we all have between the classes of our beloved ΣAE fraternity, PAGO 2019 was another great brotherhood event. Thanks to Brothers George Havel Jr.'79, Doug Fink '77, and Greg Martin '76 for all their help and support. PAGO 2020—the 38th Year—will recognize classes ending in "0" and "5," and invite all brothers to visit Illinois Beta, and see all the changes at our alma mater. Phi Alpha! Keeping a Brother at Heart Illinois Betas Form Reunion Group to Keep Bonds Strong I n 2012, one of our Illinois Beta brothers, Dave Mickelsen '71, who was my roommate senior year, passed away suddenly of a heart attack. As we communicated the sad news to each other, a few of us commented we should get together in person before it happened to another of us. That year we held our inaugural reunion and four brothers met in Florida for a weekend golf outing. We enjoyed it so much we decided to keep the golf reunion going. We have expanded the group somewhat and have met every year so far except once, due to a hurricane. Not everybody attends all of them due to other commitments, but we try our best to be there. Unfortunately, in 2016, if my memory is right, a hurricane pre- vented us from gathering. Although we met in 2015, I don't have any photos from the event because I was moving to a new home when the group met in Georgia to play. We enjoy each other's company and enjoy getting caught up on life's changes when we see each other.
