Gengler '08 C oming from the small, southeast Kansas town of Chanute, Timothy Prier '99 was looking for an opportunity to join a growing organization. Tim found the character of the men in Sigma Chi stood out among other fraternities during recruitment. "Joining Sigma Chi placed the right balance on academics and social life for me," Tim said. "My time with Sigma Chi had a significant and positive impact on my life." Throughout his time as an active member, Tim enjoyed building friendships through social events, Derby Days, meetings, and late-night conversations in the new member dorms. "I made many lifelong friends through Sigma Chi," Tim said. "My 1995 class has remained very close over the years." In 2015, his class held their 20-year reunion at K-State, reconnecting brothers where it all began. It's because of the fond memories of his collegiate years that Tim was motivated to give back to the chapter through A New Era capital campaign. Coming from a small community, Tim knew he wanted other young men to be able to have the same life-changing opportunities he had with Sigma Chi. "It is important to pay it forward to those who come after us," Tim said. He returned to campus during the most recent open house and was impressed with the character of the active members. "I am excited to see the impact that this project has on the young men of Sigma Chi." Tim is grateful for the influence Sigma Chi had on his career, especially with the help he received from his older brothers. Their willingness to mentor him and open opportunities for campus and community involvement helped shape him into the man he is today. "Your career is a series of steps," Tim said, "and I took many steps during those years through the encouragement of my brothers." During his junior year on campus, Tim started his first internet business, which operated out of his Sigma Chi apartment of Bluemont his senior year. And he's maintained that love of technology years after graduation. After leaving K-State with a degree in financial management and economics, Tim had the opportunity to be involved in several other technology companies. His most recent venture has been creating Wicket.com. Wicket is a startup mobile bank focused on financial health and wellness. Tim launched in September to friends and family and will be operating the company as the founder and CEO. Tim lives in Leawood, Kansas, and he has been married for 15 years with five beautiful children between the ages of 2 and 12. You can reach Tim at timothyprier@gmail.com.
