A s the youngest female federal judge in the District of Kansas, Holly Hydeman Teeter '99 is no stranger to the demands of tireless work. With an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering, Holly learned early on how to juggle the time and energy required to reach the level of success she maintains today. "I am extremely honored to be in this position and grateful to the individuals who helped and supported me during my confirmation process," Holly shared. "I will work hard to justify the confidence that so many people placed in me in allowing me to serve as the steward of this position." Before she began her legal career, Holly spent countless hours traipsing from the Lambda Chapter House to Learned Hall completing classwork with Alicia Mitchell Bodecker '99. "I was extremely fortunate to have Alicia in my major," she stated. In addition to Alicia, Holly made several lifelong, life-changing friendships through Chi Omega. "These friendships taught me a lot about myself— some of my strengths and some of my weaknesses—and these insights helped me after graduation," Holly said. "Life in a sorority house teaches you how to get along with a variety of people and personality types. I think this ability to navigate different personal relationships is a very important skill for life after college." Some days Holly spends her time reading briefs, reviewing case law, and discussing opinions with her law clerks. Other days she's in the courtroom presiding over various hearings or trials. "Each day is different, and this variety makes my job incredibly interesting and rewarding," she shared. "I enjoy interacting with the parties and attorneys, researching the law, and issuing opinions on novel legal issues. I also enjoy interacting with the public at court events and am particularly excited to preside over my first naturalization ceremony."
