They will be held on the THIRD TUESDAY of the month in the Library Meeting room, start- ing at 1:30 pm. New residents are welcome to share their suggestions and concerns. The public is encouraged to attend. Topics will vary, however anyone may speak on any Town issue. The Library is located at 465 N. Plymouth Ave., Quartzsite. Broadway, Blythe, Ca Dona Dene Dole Dona Dene Dole passed away on Tuesday June 11, 2019 at the age of 71 years old. Dona was born on July 28, 1947 in Long Beach, CA to Doris (Lee) Swallow and Edward Schluter. In 1949 Doris married Harry Nelson and in 1952 they moved to Mad- eline Island where Dona spent her childhood years. Dona loved this area and would visit when she could in her later years. She enjoyed picking berries and the high school twist parties at the family restau- rant on Thursday nights. She also kept busy by cleaning homes for summer residents and helped raise her fi ve younger siblings. Dona graduated high school in Ash- land, WI in 1965. She attended Ash- land County Teachers College and received a Teaching Degree in 1967. She married Edwin Schoen on Feb- ruary 25, 1967 in Ashland, WI. After graduation they moved to Stockton, CA where she taught at Washing- ton Elementary School. They had two children, Thomas and Lewis Schoen. Dona and Edwin divorced 10 years later. After her divorce she went back to school and received a degree in Art and Interior Design in DuPage, IL. Dona always had a pas- sion for art. She was a very talented artist and continued to learn new methods through the years. Years later Dona moved to Quartzsite, AZ where she met and married Dennis Dole on December 31, 1987. Dona was very active in the community that she loved. She was a school board representative for 3 years, volunteered at the el- ementary school reading to the Kin- dergarten and 1st grade classes, and she taught numerous art classes on how to paint on rocks and slabs. She donated many of her artwork pieces to fundraiser auctions in the community. Over the last 19 years she was most active with the VFW Auxiliary where she held many positions including, the Post President for two terms, District President for two terms, four State Offi cer positions, as well as, numerous post, district and state committee chairmanship positions. Dona was passionate about raising funds for those in need and her fa- vorite events were the Buddy Pop- py Program and the Garden Party. She was the Chairman of the Buddy Poppy Program. This event raised funds for The VFW National Home for Children program that serves as a living memorial to America's veterans by helping our nation's military and veteran families dur- ing diffi cult times. The Garden Party Fundraiser supported Can- cer Aide and Research which was dear to hear heart. Lastly, alongside Dennis they organized and ran the Quartzsite Golf Tournament for 20 years which raised over $80,000 for scholarships for the local children. Dona was known for her generous heart in always helping others, quick wit and her love of painting. She had many close friends whom she enjoyed lunches, wine time and fun shopping trips through the years. She had a way of making people around her feel welcome and would lend a hand whenever needed. Dona was preceded in death by Ed- ward Schluter and Harry Nelson. She is survived by her husband Den- nis; Mother, Doris(Gene) Swallow Quartzsite, AZ; her two children, Thomas (Akiko) Schoen, Down- ers Grove, IL and Lewis (Rachael) Schoen Racine, WI; Dennis's daugh- ters Kaitlin (Ken) Wheeler Salem, OR and Kendra Harris, Hawaii; her brothers Arnie Nelson, LaPointe, WI, Ronnie Nelson, LaPointe, WI, Thomas (Kirsten) Nelson, LaPointe, WI and Wayne (Mirka) Nelson, Bay- fi eld, WI and sister Betty (Wally) Tribbey, Iron River, WI; her grand- children Autumn, Gwendolyn, Keri and Melody and also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends in Quartzsite. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday November 2, 2019 at the VFW in Quartzsite, AZ at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of fl owers please send do- nations in care of VFW Auxiliary Cancer Fund to VFW Post 769 Aux- iliary P.O.
