SIGMA NEWS GAMMA PHI BETA AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS • FALL 2019 W hen it comes to Gamma Phi Beta being a true and constant sisterhood, few alumnae exemplify that be er than Sally Ramseyer Beck '74. Sigma Chapter's tradi on of scholas c success has a lot to do with Sally's dedica on to the chapter. Sally has served on the Sigma House Corpora on Board since 1999 and has volunteered as the scholarship advisor due to her educa on background. While Sally and her husband, Carter, recently moved to Ennis, Montana, and are building a home with gorgeous mountain views, she is looking forward to staying involved with Sigma Chapter from afar. Undergraduate members and alumnae alike will miss seeing Sally around Lawrence and wanted to show their gra tude for everything she has done for Sigma Chapter. Sally will always be an important part of Sigma Chapter's success thanks to the Sally Ramseyer Beck Gamma Phi Beta Student Support Fund, which was established this fall. Our goal is to raise $25,000 for the fund within the next few years. We invite all Sigmas who know or have been touched by Sally to consider contribu ng in her honor. (See box below on how to donate). "I can't tell you how much this means to me! Having spent many years administering the scholarships for Sigma members and seeing the impact that the awards have had on their lives, it is a great honor to think that I will have the opportunity to con nue to help Sigma members for years to come," Sally said. "As scholarship advisor, I have had the privilege of wri ng hundreds of recommenda on le ers for deserving members for not only scholarships, but also for jobs, internships, graduate schools, and other posi ons over the years. It is so special for me to see our collegians a ain their educa onal and professional goals." Sally taught every age level from pre-school to college at some point during her career but spent most of her me in special educa on at the middle school level. Sally's teaching career included being a college learning strategies instructor when she was just star ng her family. She has enjoyed sharing many of the study strategies she developed with members of Sigma Chapter in her role as the scholarship advisor. "Gamma Phi Beta has always been an important part of my life, no ma er where I lived," Sally said. "Through my volunteering with Interna onal ΓΦΒ as well as alumnae groups, I have made friends all over the country. Sigma Chapter is near and dear to my heart, and I knew that I wanted to devote my energies to helping my own chapter when the opportunity became available." Scholarship advisor is just one of many hats Sally has worn at Sigma Chapter. She has served as chapter advisor, recruitment advisor, rituals advisor, and pre y much any other role that needed someone over the past 20 years. Sally began to realize how special Gamma Phi Beta was when she served as vice-president and rituals chairman as an undergraduate. Sally es mates she has been a part of close to 50 ini a on ceremonies, not only at Sigma, but at other chapters she visited as a consultant for Gamma Phi and at the 13 Interna onal Gamma Phi Beta Conven ons she has a ended. She also guesses that she has logged almost 25,000 miles on her car driving to chapter mee ngs every Monday night and other sorority ac vi es and mee ngs over that past 20 years. The memories Sally has made at Sigma Chapter are well documented through movies and scrapbooks she has made. Sally's camera will con nue ge ng put to good use around her new Montana home, as she spends free me photographing wildlife while hiking in the mountains and exploring nearby Yellowstone. "I am enjoying my new adventure in Montana, but certainly miss Kansas and Sigma Chapter. I look forward to keeping in touch with my Gamma Phi sisters! You can connect with Sally at slbeck@live.com.
