Swancoat '12 W ork hard, play hard has been a mantra that Daron Davis, M.D. '07 has lived by throughout his life. When he joined Beta Mu as a sophomore pre-med stu- dent, it brought a whole new meaning to his lifelong motto. Adding onto his busy schedule was a challenge, but Daron never regretted his decision to join Pike. "Pike was the best fit for me from the very beginning," Daron said. "I was re- cruited by actives who I looked up to, and I ended up with awesome brothers, which only further confirmed my choice in Beta Mu." Daron has fond memories holding bonfires with his brothers, hanging out around the Swamp Party build in the fall, and experiencing Round- up Weekend every spring. He also kept busy during his time as an active member, holding the offices of academic and philanthropy chair- man along with serving as head of the Honors Council and various social committees. On top of his involvement in Beta Mu, Daron was successful in his academic pursuits, receiving a bachelor's degree in Biology, and was a member of the Silver Spurs. He later went on to earn his M.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Aer graduating, Daron remained close with his Beta Mu brothers, like Josh Devin '07, Connor Mowles '07 and Jonathan Saperstein '06 who make up the majority of his closest friends. ese friendships got Daron to reflect on his time at Pike, which motivated him to give back to the Honoring Our Legacy, Securing Our Future campaign for Beta Mu. "e former Pike house will always hold a special place in many hearts," Daron said. "However, the chapter was long overdue for an upgrade. I have no doubt that the new house will not only provide a desirable place for actives to live, but also bring new opportunities for recruitment and sorority relations." On top of his involvement with Pike, Daron is a board-certified emergency medicine physician and primarily works as an independent con- tractor within the Texas Health System. He also works with smaller facilities and occasionally freestanding emergency rooms throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. "I actually stumbled into the field of emergency medicine during an elective course in medical school," Daron said. "I found that the nature of the work combined with the flexible schedule, and no home call, was a great fit." In any given day as an ER doctor, Daron treats a wide variety of illnesses and injuries, such as broken bones, heart attacks and cardiac arrest, strokes, major trauma, active labor and everything in between. On his days off, Daron enjoys spending time with his wife, Tina, and their Labrador, Cow- boy. ey oen visit his hometown of Canton and enjoy getting down to Austin for Longhorn games with Beta Mu brothers. ough Beta Mu is still in the "work hard" stages of the cam- paign, Daron looks forward to being back on campus to see the completed chapter house. If you would like to talk to Daron about his time with Pike or his career as an ER doctor, he can be reached at daronddavis@gmail.com.
