4 - SENIOR Health Fair - September 11, 2019 Welcome to the Fall 2019 Senior Expo! Adult Day NWA staff and volunteers welcome you to the Senior Expo at Rior- dan Hall on Thursday, September 19th, from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The twice- yearly event, the biggest senior health event in Northwest Arkansas, has been a tradition in the Bella Vista community for more than 15 years. The theme of the fall event is "Team- work." Sponsors and vendors will be designing and decorating their tables and coordinating costumes with colors of their favorite sports teams, their own work team logos or coming up with other clever twists on the "team" theme. They'll even be coordinating their door prizes with the theme. Attendees can get in on the fun by dressing in favorite team colors, team attire or team-themed costumes. Sara Scott, Executive Director of Adult Day NWA (formerly known as Village House) points out that the theme is appropriate, because "it definitely takes a team to pull off an event like this." Sara knows this firsthand. She and her team have been coordinating, hosting and organizing the Senior Expo for the past 3 years. And although Adult Day NWA has changed its name and relo- cated to Rogers, Sara points out that the organization has a 30-year history with the community of Bella Vista and will continue to give back in every way possible. "It's always a fantastic event that we look forward to twice a year, a 'thank you' to a community we have such close ties with," says Sara. "People always have fun dressing up and getting into character. It's fun to see what folks come up with." The costumes and decorations are just the beginning of this helpful, infor- mational community gathering focused on senior health and lifestyle resources. About 75 vendors are scheduled to be at Riordan Hall, handing out freebies, providing helpful tips and health screen- ings and connecting to seniors in the Northwest Arkansas community. About 500 people are expected to visit the four- hour expo. Concordia Retirement Center will once again be providing shuttle service and grilling up a "famous" (and free) Nathan's hot dog lunch. "People really look forward to it," Sara notes. "Everyone just loves those hot dogs!" Live music will add to the festive atmo- sphere of the Expo. Author Walter Steven Geeding will be signing his newest book. There will be giveaways, goodies and prizes galore and it promises to be a morning of fun, learning and connec- tion with health providers, community non-profits, elder law specialists, senior care communities, service organizations and more. Walgreens will be providing flu shots and health screenings. Arbor Vitae will provide free chiropractic screenings, and Blue Wave Hearing will conduct free hearing screenings, to name just a few of the helpful health resources available at the Expo. Sara points out that nearly every vendor will be giving away a door prize, and the popular "door prize bingo" game will add to the fun. Every attendee will get a bingo card, which lists sponsors and vendors instead of numbers. As attendees visit the respective booths, they can fill up their cards. When they get a BLACKOUT, they enter their card in the drawing to win door prizes. In addition to presenting sponsor Adult Day NWA, new Platinum Spon- sors for the event include Home Instead Senior Care, Primrose Retirement, and Elite Home Health. Silver Spon- sors include House of Three and NWA Advanced Medical & Aesthetics. Bronze Sponsors are NanoPac, Corporon Insur- ance, Comfort Keepers, Superior Senior Care and Cap Tel Outreach. Lunch and Golf Cart Sponsor is Concordia Retire- ment Community. A few vendor and sponsor opportuni- ties are still available, so call Sara today at (479) 855-4449 to get on board. If you are a senior, caregiver or family member of an older adult you won't want to miss this fun and free event! It's a great opportunity to meet the people and organizations that provide enriching life and health services here in North- west Arkansas.
