The Agency is a non-profit organiza- tion, established by the Older Ameri- can's Act as part of the National Aging Network. Over the years the Agency has helped thousands of older men and women find help in making their senior years fulfilling, productive and easier. Each day there are hundreds of our senior citizens who have no one checking on them or looking in on their health and welfare. At the Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Arkansas, they are commit- ted to enhancing the lives of seniors and the elderly in Northwest Arkansas. They have committed financial and human resources to provide numerous services to the elderly population in our commu- nities. The assistance provided to seniors includes but is not limited to: • Adult Day Centers & Services • Care Coordination • Family Caregiver Support Program • Senior Housing • Information & Assistance • In-Home Services: Assistance with activities of daily livening • Long Term Care Ombudsman • Meals on Wheels Provider • Medical Supplies • Personal Emergency Response System (Life Alert) • Senior Activity & Wellness Centers Since 1979 the Area Agency on Aging in our area has served Baxter, Benton, Boone, Carroll, Madison, Marion, Newton, Searcy and Washington coun- ties, identifying the needs of older Arkan- sans, developing a comprehensive and coordinated system of services, advo- cating for the rights and needs of older persons. They proudly provide services to Military Veterans and persons with disabilities as well. Trained Caregivers are available to help with everyday tasks for seniors and disabled persons. Under the supervision of an RN, these caregivers can come to your home to provide assistance with daily activities, like bathing, grooming, dressing, and eating, so that you can remain in your own home. They can also help with cooking, cleaning, errands and limited transportation . These assistants give their clients much more than the work services for which they are hired; they also provide them with an opportu- nity for social interaction and a sense of belonging and being cared for. The Area Agency on Aging offers Care Coordination services for all seniors, and has an experienced staff of Care Coor- dinators in each county. They can assist seniors and their families by assessing individual needs, providing information and finding the services in the commu- nity that best meet those needs at no cost to you. More involved coordination of services, such as managing finances and attending doctor appointments with a loved one, are available on a fee-for-ser- vice basis. Senior Activity & Wellness Centers are a great place for seniors to meet new friends, renew old acquaintances, have a hot nutritious lunch, or join in exercise, computer, and other classes. Enjoy danc- ing, pool, bingo, quilting, card games, or a quiet afternoon putting a puzzle together. The centers also provide regularly sched- uled transportation for seniors who no longer drive and Home-delivered meals for the frail elderly To find out more about the mission of the Area Agency on Aging in Northwest Arkansas, call them toll- free at 800-432-9721 or visit www. aaanwar.org.
