If you want a more complete version of "Hamlet" – but
one that's no less distinctive – Sweet Tea Shakespeare has
you covered. e play is one of four being performed over
the coming season by the traveling theater company, in
addition to "Behold," the folk cantata it performs every
Christmas season.
• Oct. 4-Nov. 9: "HamLIT" is dubbed thus because it's
part of the theater company's LIT series, referring to its
status as literature and also to the fact that, even though
"Hamlet" is a tragedy, this version will involve improv
comedy, audience participation and drinking games. As
such, it will be an adults-only show and staged at e Arts
Council, Dirtbag Ales, Paddy's Irish Pub and Hugger
Mugger Brewing Co. in Sanford. e theater company
will also perform the play Sept. 27-28 at Gates Four Golf &
Country Club for the Fayetteville Dinner eatre.
• Dec. 4-14: "Behold," the company's annual Christmas
concert, will feature the familiar gospel music that's
always at its heart but this year's offering promises a
special focus on the story of Mary. One show will be
at Methodist University and the others at Holy Trinity
Episcopal Church.
• Jan. 2-26: e Scottish play, aka Mac-you-know-who (ok,
"Macbeth" for the non-superstitious), is Shakespeare's
"ultimate story of ambition, legacy and evil," according
to the theater company. It will be performed at Vizcaya
Villa, Methodist University and William Peace University
in Raleigh.
• April 30 - June 21: "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is a
light frothy comedy that's a great lead-in to summer. It
