Held at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. NYSP inspires outstanding 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students to explore, invent, learn and think creatively. Eight year old Samantha is a 3rd grade student at James Love Elementary School in Ms. Leckie’s class. She was nominated by Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Langley for her matu- rity, academic excellence and outstand- ing leadership potential. Regan, Dean of Academic Affairs for the Program. NYSP gives students the chance to unleash their full learning potential as they further their interest in specific areas of study such as architecture, forensic science and medicine. Throughout the Program, young scholars engage in challenging coursework, gain a greater sense of inde- pendence and experience a renaissance of learning. The Program culminates with student-created projects tying in leadership skills learned with the discoveries made in their specific area of study. NYSP is dedicated to identifying, inspiring and honoring the nation’s most promising elementary school students. Lovely red roses, flags and greenery with white linen table clothes dressed the tables. Regent Judy Long welcomed members and guests. Sonya Ivester gave the benediction and blessing. All enjoyed a wonderful din- ner. Sonya Ivestor and Regent Judy Long led the group in the DAR ritual, the Pledge of Allegiance, to the flag and the Americans Creed. Marge Senn chairman of Youth and Education presented the American History Essay award to Luke Hayek. This consisted of a Medal, certificate and a monetary award. All enjoyed Lukes presentation of the essay. Lukes parents were in attendance. A scholarship was also awarded to Marge Senn chairman of Youth and Education pre- sented the American History Essay award to Luke Hayek. Megan Hoyle and Hayley Hoyle who were chosen for their patriotism, conduct and scholastic achieve- ments in accordance with NSDAR guide lines. The Benjamin Cleveland Chapter promotes the educational, historical and patriotic objectives of the national society.The Benjamin Cleveland Chapter presents JROTC and Good Citizenship awards annu- ally on behalf of the NSDAR. Boys & Girls Club Summer Day Camp The Boys & Girls Club of Cleveland County is now holding registra- tion for the 2010 Jack Schweppe Summer Day Camp. Open regis- tration will be held weekdays from 2 PM to 7 PM. at the Boys & Girls Club building, located at 412 West Sumter Street, directly behind Shelby Middle School in Shelby. Parent Packets, which contain all registration materials and program information, are available during the Club’s regular After-School program hours. Registration is ongo- ing, space permitting, first come-first served. The 2010 Summer Day Camp schedule offers three sessions, each spanning three weeks. Session 1 is Monday, June 14 through Friday, July 3. Session 2 is Tuesday, July 6 through Friday, July 23. Session 3 is Monday, July 26 through Friday, August 13. Day Camp operates weekdays from 8:00 AM to 5:30 in the evening with the program schedule vary- ing daily. Campers participate in structured daily Club activities in which they are placed with children of like age. The Jack Schweppe Summer Day Camp is open to all boys and girls, rising first graders through age 16. Registration restrictions apply to campers 15 & 16 years of age. Feeding the Hungry in Cleveland County The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer is hosting a benefit con- cert at Owl’s Eye Winery on June 26th at 7:00 PM. The headliner band is Chatham County Line http://www.chathamcountyline.com/ a nationally and internationally renowned Blue Grass/Rock-a-Billy band from Raleigh, NC. All proceeds are going to our food pantry and Sheppard’s Table. (We feed over 100 people every Wednesday at the Episcopal Church in Shelby). The Tickets are $20.00 each; in addition please bring non-perishable foods as a donation. We are try- ing to sell 200 tickets.
