The weather map across the country is now really starting to look like a true Summer map. There’s a pretty strong heat wave beginning in the lower Rockies that will spread over the Plains this weekend, and very wet and stormy conditions across the Lakes. Between these two areas will lie the battleground, and that includes us. If you recall last June, there was a similar situation the early part of the month, that included very severe storms rolling through our area. This situation looks eerily similar. As the heat wave just to our west tries to lurch eastward, it gets squashed because of several strong disturbances that will race down out of the Ohio Valley. Any of these disturbances could reek torrential power over our area at any time this weekend into early next week, with a special weather phenemenon known as a “Derecho”. These lines of severe weather are quick movers, but are known for their hail, strong winds and severe outbreaks. Be on guard, and keep your eyes peeled to the northwest skies around our mountains. Otherwise, between these rounds of rain, we could have some sun and muggy conditions. The heat wave has eyes on us soon. During the Academy Of The Performing Arts 15th annu- al recital, one of the best crowd pleasers was the roar- ing twenties fl apper girls’ revue! The event was held at Shelby High’s Malcolm Brown Auditorium. Shown here, are fl appers Catherine Bowen, Carmen Henwood and Hallie Rogers. Memorial Day is a special day of remembrance. At the beautiful memorial in Fallston, fl ags representing all branches of the armed services were placed around the monument. On each tableau, names of those who served from the Fallston area are engraved as a special salute. www.shelbyinfo.com Thursday, June 3-June 9, 2010 faces, places and things in Cleveland County In Shelby at Carter Chevrolet, the rain didn’t dampen the special Memorial Day Cookout they hosted.
