2 T he Phi Epsilon Phi House Corporation annual meeting is scheduled for Friday, August 23, at the beginning of 2019 House Work Party weekend. Look for updates about the events on the chapter website: sigmachirpidotorg.wordpress.com/ news/ and in other social media. Earlier, President John Pfaff '71 reported on the new RPI Arch Program (juniors attend school in the summer and then have an internship or other program semester away from RPI during one of the "traditional fall or spring semes- ters." RPI Arch Program: info.rpi.edu/the-arch). Pfaff 's report on his summer meeting with Arch Juniors: "We have eight of our rising juniors participating. e other 12 Delta Psi juniors have either decided not to participate or have been granted waivers. eir schedules were extremely tight. ey have classes four days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. e rest of their time is taken up with studying and class assignments. Trying to jam two courses into six weeks is a big challenge, and there is very little time for the social programs touted by the school." "Also, the juniors need help with finding internships during the traditional semesters. If any of you and your companies can hire an intern from September through December, or from January through April, we have some terrific men available for you—Engineers, Com- puter Science majors, etc. If RPI cannot provide opportunities, let's see if Sigma Chi alumni can help our undergraduate brothers." Post any advice or help you can lend to our Delta Psi actives through the LinkedIn group: Sigma Chi Fraternity, Delta Psi Chapter Alum- ni: www.linkedin.com/groups/141214/. T hrough the spring and summer, the Pinewoods Educational Foundation has explored additional ways to fulfill our broader educational mission and serve Delta Psi. We are committed to providing educational and leadership development to both the chapter and the broader RPI com- munity. Importantly, we are also working to provide the chapter with very positive campus-wide name recognition and promo- tion while remaining in compliance with the Institute's policies for delayed Freshman recruitment. Building on the Sigma Chi focus of values- driven recruitment, in alignment with RPI's requirements, the most significant is the establishment of the "Jordan Standard Scholarships." is year, there will be three $1,000 scholarship awards given to incom- ing Freshmen based on their essays explain- ing how they meet the qualities described in our Jordan Standard. e communications to the incoming Freshmen will be from the Foundation and Sigma Chi, and the top 12 applicants and their parents will be invited to the chapter house for the Parents Week- end dinner, at which the three winners will be announced. If this is successful, and if we attract additional donations, we would like to expand this in the future. And some sprucing up has been going on… It's hard to believe that it has now been six years since the major renovation of the Pomeroy Chapter House was completed. While the undergraduates have taken good care of the chapter house, wear and tear was starting to show from 12 semesters of use. We undertook some repairs and modifica- tions, along with a top-to-bottom interior paint job in addition to our usual sum- mer maintenance projects. e fall 2019 semester is beginning with a clean, like-new chapter house! We hope all of you will make it back for Homecoming this year, and for the 70th Anniversary celebration in 2020 to see and enjoy the Pomeroy Chapter House!
