Rutherfordton Mayor Jimmy Dancy signed a proclamation declaring National Nutrition Month for the Town on March 1. "On behalf of the Town of Rutherfordton, I thank Rutherford Regional for its leadership role in the nutritional health of our citizens," Dancy said. "We consider Rutherford Regional an asset and thank them not only for providing trained medical staff to meet our medical needs but their concern for our health before we need medical services." National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign created annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. During National Nutrition Month, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics encourages consumers to develop a healthful eating plan that is centered on personal health concerns and "Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day." "Many people believe that in order to eat healthy foods you have to give up your favorite foods," said Alexandra Lautenschlager, clinical nutrition manager at Rutherford Regional Health System. "You can absolutely include the foods you love as part of a healthful eating plan – if your diet doesn't fit with your lifestyle and unique needs, it won't work out in the long-term."
