Provided By Pamela Pruitt Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks To Piedmont (GSCP2P) Will Join Others Across The Nation In Celebrating Girl Scout Week The organization was established in 1912 by founder Juliette Gordon Low. Her vision was to grow a girl-centered organization, where girls could experience the outdoors, expand their worlds through community service and learn the skills needed to be successful women in the society they lived in. March 12, the official birthday of Girl Scouting, celebrated the day in 1912 when Low officially registered the organization's first 18 girl members in Savannah, Georgia. Turning 101 this year, Girl Scouts has grown to 3.2 million members and is known as the premier girl leadership organization in the nation. "Girl Scout Week is an opportunity to celebrate the long and proud history of Girl Scouting," said Marcia Cole, chief executive officer of GSCP2P. "It is also an opportunity to thank the countless number of volunteers in our community who give so much to Girl Scouting all year long. With their support, we are able to continue to offer girls the encouragement, guidance and resources they need to develop their leadership skills." During Girl Scout Week,(March 10-16) Girl Scouts of all ages celebrate by demonstrating leadership and commitment in ways that have a real impact on their communities.During the week GSCP2P will have several young girls participating in the North Carolina Governor Page program in Raleigh.
