The program A Brief History of Black America provides a space where all people can come together and consider the life and legacy of Black Americans in America and abroad. Ra- ven Cook, a museum educator at Crys- tal Bridges Museum of American Art where she oversees the African Ameri- can Summer Institute, will provide par- ticipants with an understanding of their own power to make a diff erence using the gifts we each possess. Ms. Cook is the founder of Foundations: Black His- tory Educational Programming,which seeks to educate all people on the life and legacy of Black Americans in America and abroad. DESCRIPTION: George Kalin, a Polish American, will share his research and amassed information about this im- portant country. He'll begin with Jan Sobieski's rescue of Vienna in 1683, then move onto Poland's role in the revolutionary war via Pulaski and Kos- ciuszko. He will discuss Poland's rec- reation following WWI and the role she played in the Polish/Russian War- saving Europe from Lenin and commu- nism. Finally, the class will fi nish with Poland's important role in WWII via her Enigma code work and her participa- tion in the Battle of Britain. This lecture will leave participants with the realiza- tion that all Poles do share one thing- the FREEDOM GENE. The materials cover varied aspects of conservative retire- ment planning, such as changes in planning paradigms, history of mar- kets, impact of bear markets, retire- ment budgeting, aspects of fi nancial decisions, and more, while highlight- ing the ABC Planning Model. Students will increase their awareness of the overall risk in the markets as well as possible asset allocation models to help manage exposure to risk. This course also covers conservative retire- ment planning, income planning, as- set allocation, and appropriate fi nan- cial decisions. It is not designed to give specifi c solutions to individual needs. This is not a fi nancial seminar; this is a fi nancial course of study where you will leave with the knowledge and confi dence to make fi nancial decisions suited to your level of risk and in-line with the goals and objectives you es- tablish. Discuss sto- ries and cultures that may have con- tributed to this iconic collection and the many incarnations of its heroine, Scheherazade, as well as examine the 18th- and 19th- century European ori- entalists whose obsession with Arabic children's literature swiftly evolved into a vehicle for cultural imperialism. Join Mekiya Walters in an investiga- tion of a cast of characters including Antoine Galland (the stuffy French- man who insisted that the collection contain exactly 1,000 stories), Hanna Diyab (the Syrian storyteller who, to appease Galland, invented the tale of Aladdin based loosely on his visit to Versaille), Edward Lane (the hapless Brit who never quite got the hang of Egyptian humor) and Richard Burton (Goodness! Where do we even begin?) It's designed to be a hands-on workshop where the learning and the doing will happen together. Helen Eaton and Ju- lie Brandt, who will conduct the paint- ing workshop, will guide participants with the use of reference photo- graphs, teacher models, demonstra- tions of varied techniques, individual attention, and lots of encouragement for this small first painting. All materials (canvas, paint, brushes, palette, medium, etc.) will be provid- ed within the cost of the class. Max enrollment is 12. CUT THE CORD! INTERNET TV AND MOVIES DESCRIPTION: Technology can make our lives easier, more productive and sometimes less expensive. This ses- sion will give you tips on how to cut the cord. The basics of digital anten- nas, internet ready televisions and streaming devices will be discussed in this session with information on how to get what you need to cut the cord and how this can save you money! Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime will be demonstrated and UA students will be on hand to help you explore options and sign up if you are ready, so bring your device with you.
