O
ur Beta Chi undergraduate sisters have lived in our beautiful new
house on 238 E. Maxwell for an entire year, and we feel at home. This
year challenged us to utilize a brand-new space in order to strengthen our
sisterhood, and I am amazed by how much we have accomplished.
Undergraduates Making Strides at Leadership
To start off the semester, five officers, including me, had the privilege of
attending the Kappa Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. In three
days, we experienced position-specific training and leadership development
seminars, all while making new friends and memories with chapters across
the country. We brought back innovative ideas and motivation to make a
difference in our fraternity.
Reading is Key for Kappas
Philanthropy is one of our strongest values, and we once again have proven
this true. We hosted a Dr. Seuss-themed Reading is Key event at Tates
Creek Elementary School. Our members helped students with their literacy
skills, such as fluency and comprehension, and all 650 students received a
free new book! We also paired with Kappa Alpha Order to host our annual
Kappa Bowl fundraising event for Reading is Fundamental. Instead of
holding the event outside, this year we decided to change things up and
host it at the Kentucky Indoor Lexington soccer fields. Kappa Bowl was a
hit on campus and a huge success, raising over $3,000!
Celebrations with Kappa Moms
In April, we invited our families to our Kappa home for the annual Mother-
Daughter Tea. That weekend we also held the Senior Banquet to say
goodbye and good luck to the Fall 2015 member class and to those who
are graduating. Both celebrations are important as they signify the end of a
chapter and the start of a new beginning. Whether the first year of college
or the last, neither are possible without family support. Thank you to all
who were able to be there, as it truly means so much to our members.
Beta Chi has a long tradition of being special, and this tradition is based
on the idea that we will always remember our dear Kappa days. I want to
personally thank our alumnae for their ongoing support, as our chapter
would not be what it is today without you. Our 2019 semester had a
great start, and I am ecstatic to see where this momentum will take us in
the fall. If you ever find yourself in Lexington, make sure you stop by
the chapter house to experience and relive the history and sisterhood of
Kappa Kappa Gamma!
